Visualizing the Future: A Strategic Approach to Clinical Change

The Challenge: Overcoming the "Unknown"

When 13 acute care hospitals transition from legacy paper records to a fully digital Clinical Information System, the shift is more than technical — it is psychological. For medical staff, the primary barrier to adoption is the inability to visualize how their high-pressure, "day-in-the-life" workflows will actually function in a digital environment. To ensure a successful five-year rollout, we needed a way to break down resistance and build clinical readiness before the first computer ever hit the floor.

The Strategy: Narrative-Driven Animation

I chose to move beyond traditional technical manuals and static slide decks, opting instead for high-impact, narrative-driven animation. By using Vyond to create a "Day in the Life" series, I was able to:

  • Humanize Technical Workflows: Instead of explaining software features, we told a human story that staff could relate to.

  • Reduce Change Anxiety: By showing the end-to-end patient journey, we provided clinicians with a clear roadmap to their future state.

  • Multilayered Communication: The animation served as a multi-purpose tool —acting as a training aid for staff, an informative piece for the media, and a transparency tool for the public.

The Project: Ana Smith’s Journey of Care

The following video demonstrates the sample end-to-end patient journey of Ana Smith. Following a motor vehicle accident, Ana is transported via ambulance, admitted, treated, and begins her recovery.

This animation allows stakeholders to see the exact touchpoints where the "Advance" system improves safety, streamlines data, and enhances the face-to-face care Ana receives. It transformed a complex, intimidating IT implementation into a tangible, positive evolution of patient care.
